Medicine for Diabetics

Medicine for Diabetics

There are many medicines for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, (diabetes type II). Type 1 diabetes is always treated with insulin.
It is vital that no-one takes any medication for diabetes unless prescribed for them by their doctor who has examined them and given blood tests.
For type II diabetes, there are the sulphonylurea group of drugs and 'other' drugs. A wide range is available.
For good sugar control, usually it is a combination of regular exercise, with a healthy diet, and where needed the medication prescribed by your doctor.
Eating regularly at the same time each day also helps with good control. Plenty vegetables and fruit are also good as it is the fibres in fruit and vegetables that slow down the absorbtion  of sugar from the stomach into the blood. Guidance from your doctor or diabetic dietician should be followed on how much fruit you can have. Avoid saturated fats. And basmati is the best rice for diabetics.
Regular blood tests every three months should also be done by the doctor to check all is well, and there is no problem with vital organs. An annual eye test for diabetics by a specialist in this field is also advised.
Also diabetics must look after their feet, as their feet are prone to some problems.
Your diabetes is individual to you, what may work for one diabetic might not work for another.
It is most important that you see a doctor, who can give the blood test and advise you from there on, and prescribe medication suitable for you if needed.
I am a diabetic, as was my mother, as was her mother before her.
Please do not take any medicine unless your doctor has prescribed it for you.
